I have absolutely no understanding of human anatomy but if this is true, then there’s now another reason to be terrified by children.
That’s usually how it is, but I think that might be a bisected version for use in dental school, because usually they’re not exposed and have a thin layer of bone covering them.
Also, I really regret looking that up, because I stumbled across this image, which I’m sure will haunt me forever.

The giant golden-crowned flying fox (Acerodon jubatus), also known as the golden-capped fruit bat, is a rare megabat and one of the largest bats in the world. The species is endangered and is currently facing the possibility of extinction because of poaching and forest destruction. It is endemic to forests in the Philippines.
